Paving

Paving is the art of laying down stones, bricks or concrete on the ground to make a hard surface for the parking space or pavement for walkways and driveways.

Types of Paving

  1. Flexible pavement - These are pavements made of several layers of good quality materials on top and low quality materials underground. The HMA (hot mix asphalt) is a stiff and thick material and is usually used on the surface course. Materials used on base course are less stiff but play s big role in frost protection, pavement strength and drainage.
  2. Perpetual pavement - A perpetual pavement can last for over 30 years because the design techniques are long lasting. They use premium hot stuff asphalt mixtures and maintenance is occasionally done to review the surface.
  3. Rigid pavements/Portland cement concrete pavement - The pavement surface course is the strongest and the stiffest layer. Other layers are less stiff but contribute to pavement frost protection and drainage.
  4. Continuously reinforced concrete pavement - This type of pavement is joint free design whereby it has transverse cracks that are close to each other. The cracks are tightly reinforces and uniformly spaced.
  5. Composite pavements - Composite pavements are made of hydraulic cement materials and hot mix asphalt.

  6.  Lay the bricks and or stones from one corner or from a fixed structure such as a wall.
